LIV Golf Singapore preview: Field, betting odds, tee times and how to watch

It’s the seventh event of the LIV Golf season and the final warmup before the PGA Championship.

The seventh event of the 2024 LIV Golf league takes place on the Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club from May 3-5 as the series returns to Singapore for the second consecutive year.

The 2023 event was won by Talor Gooch, who claimed back-to-back wins after securing victory in Adelaide the week prior. The American prevailed over Sergio Garcia in a playoff as both players tied at -17 after 54 regulation holes.

Talor Gooch won his second successive LIV Golf event in Singapore.

Gooch finished the 2023 season with three victories, thus topping the individual points and money lists following the final event.

Singapore represents the final LIV event before the 2024 PGA Championship, which will take place at Valhalla Golf Course in Kentucky.

Joaquin Niemann has been the LIV player to watch throughout 2024, winning in both Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

At the time of writing, eight LIV players are set to compete in the second major of the year, but Niemann isn’t one of them.

As per the PGA of America’s qualifying criteria, however, the top 100 players in the Official World Golf Rankings the week before the event do usually receive an invite, meaning Adrian Meronk (61st), Lucas Herbert (84th), Joaquin Niemann (85th) and Patrick Reed (87th) should be teeing it up at Valhalla.

What is the format of LIV Golf Singapore?

The 2024 season has seen the LIV field rise to 54 competitors – 52 players across 13 franchises combined with two unsigned individuals, Anthony Kim, and Hudson Swafford – as the breakaway circuit continues to grow.

The players assigned to a team compete in an individual event alongside a team event. Every stroke counts in the former, but in the team event, only the combined scores of the team’s top three count for the first two rounds, whereas all four scores count during the final round of each event.

Each event is played over 54 holes, with no cuts and shotgun starts. For more information, check out our LIV Golf: Everything You Need to Know page.

LIV Golf 2024 individual and team standings so far

American Brendan Steele won the sixth event of the season in Adelaide last week, prevailing over Louis Oosthuizen by one stroke to claim his first individual LIV title.

Joaquin Niemann currently leads the individual standings by quite some distance. The Chilean has earned 122.40 points, which means he leads Jon Rahm (90.42 points) and Dean Burmester (88.84) in the race to win the individual points list come the end of the season.

In the team event, Crushers GC hold a commanding lead over Legion XIII and Torque GC as they are the only team to break through the 100-point barrier, sitting atop the leaderboard with 105.50 points.

Where is LIV Golf Singapore played?

The Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club will host the event for the second time. The par 71, 7,406-yard layout is among one of the finest golf courses in the country, even ranking as one of the top 100 courses in Asia.

Serapong is nestled nicely on a luxury island with streams and lakes criss-crossing the course, ensuring water comes into play often.

Holes 3-7 are known as the Dragon’s Tail, a stretch of holes that features the signature par-4 fifth – situated in the belly of the dragon – while the par-4 sixth includes the dragon’s tooth along with a false front which is known as the dragon’s tongue.

The course hosted the Singapore Open from 2005-2022, counting Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia among its winners, meaning at least a couple of LIV players will be familiar with the stunning design.

Brendan Steele won LIV Golf Adelaide 2024 and pocketed $4m.

How much does the LIV Golf Singapore winner receive?

Like every other event in the 2024 season, LIV Golf Singapore has a $25m prize purse – $20m assigned to the individual event and $5m for the team competition – with the winner receiving $4m while $50,000 will be won by those finishing towards the bottom of the leaderboard.

Only the top three teams will receive prize money in each event. The winners will earn their team $3 million, with $1.5 million and $500k earned by the second and third-placed teams respectively.
